English for Heavy Equipment Mechanical Engineering

This course book is intended for use in the Technical English course for students of Heavy Equipment Mechanical Engineering. Developed with reference to course learning outcomes and students’ learning needs, it connects English instruction with technical information commonly encountered in academic, workshop, and workplace contexts.

The materials are drawn mainly from authentic excerpts of Operation and Maintenance Manuals (OMM) and Shop Manuals. Through guided activities, students learn to understand technical vocabulary, identify text purposes and structures, follow procedural sequences, interpret warnings and cautions, read measurements and specifications, and relate written instructions to diagrams and tables. The book is designed for English language learning rather than mechanical practice.

Individual and collaborative tasks encourage students to analyse texts, discuss interpretations, organize key information, present their understanding, and compile reading portfolios. These activities are intended to develop careful, systematic, and confident readers who can understand and communicate technical information accurately in English. The book provides a structured and relevant learning resource for lecturers and students in the Heavy Equipment Mechanical Engineering program.
